Personal Mission
What is your personal mission? Draw on your
experience—perhaps an inspiration from your professional
work, connections to your region, or your work at the
international level. Your personal mission expresses your
passions, values, and what is at your core. It reflects
your motivations and the way you live and work.
If you were to
write a post summarizing your Mission, what would it say?
Write your mission statement in one to no more than
three sentences. Be concise, and authentic to your
dreams, talents, and aspirations.

structures/legal environments within which we work, and
knowing how/when to interface at these different levels.

Empowered
Networks Visionary leaders
understand the importance of collaboration, and cultivate,
empower and leverage personal and professional networks.
The communities of people we know can partner with us;
help us achieve support from crucial constituencies; and
disseminate news of our mission and project. Networks
connect, teach, and empower us, and allow us to test
ideas.
Guiding Questions:
1. To
which networks do I belong? Which of these are most
relevant to my growth
2. How
do I invest in, engage and leverage these networks toward
my leadership aspirations?
3. How
can I as an inclusive leader bridge networks to enrich
their diversity?
Strength in Numbers:
Statistics drive home the need for inclusive
leadership. U.S. politics have been transformed with the
understanding that by 2043, the majority of Americans will
be non-Caucasian. Hillary Clinton
advances women’s empowerment by emphasizing, “We cannot
accept the marginalization of half the world’s
population.” One of five Americans lives with disability
and most will face disability in their lifetimes; these
numbers reinforce the agenda of disability rights.
Diversity in Europe is rapidly increasing.
For example, Europe’s Muslim population is
predicted to exceed 58 million by 2030.
The growing Roma population is today estimated at
15 million, and the African descendent population at 10
million. By 2050, Africa’s population should represent
19.8% of the world population, compared to Europe’s 7%.
Today, nearly half the world's population is under
the age of 25, with accelerated growth in developing
countries. Add aging in developed countries, and it is
clearly no longer possible to lead without “diversity
and inclusion” competencies.
Diverse
young leaders are uniquely positioned to meet this urgent
need.
